New Welsh Fareshare

FareShare have announced the launch of  its first operation in Wales.

FareShare North Wales, operated by franchise partner Crest Co-operative was officially launched on Thursday 20th January. Cllr Vicky McDonald, mayor of Conwy, unveiled a plaque during a ceremony at Crest’s Llandudno Junction based head office.

Since FareShare North Wales was established in September last year, community groups across Conwy and Denbighshire have received deliveries of high quality food, free of charge.

The fit for purpose food, which has been provided by food suppliers including large manufacturers and retailers as well as local food companies, is surplus to requirements and would otherwise by destined for landfill.

In just four months FareShare North Wales has donated £36, 743 worth of quality food to vulnerable members of society at 17 community groups across two counties. The project has also diverted 22.6 tonnes of food away from landfill.
