All over the country, this has been a good year for fruit with most top fruit cropping heavily.

Gary’s tree variety is Elstar. A fairly recent introduction of a dessert apple. Originally raised in the Netherlands, the fruit is very juicy, crisp and sweet.

Elstar is well suited to the northern climate as it flowers in mid May, usually avoiding those late frosts.

The fruits can be picked from August to October and Gary was eating fruit from his tree in mid September last year.

Don’t forget that October sees many events all over the UK for the Apple Day celebrations.
