\"apples_ripening290\"<\/a>One of our readers has sent in pictures of his four year old apple tree, which this year has cropped well.<\/p>\n

All over the country, this has been a good year for fruit with most top fruit cropping heavily.<\/p>\n

Gary’s tree variety is Elstar.<\/strong><\/a> A fairly recent introduction of a dessert apple. Originally raised in the Netherlands, the fruit is very juicy, crisp and sweet.<\/p>\n

Elstar is well suited to the northern climate as it flowers in mid May, usually avoiding those late frosts.<\/p>\n

The fruits can be picked from August to October and Gary was eating fruit from his tree in mid September last year.<\/p>\n
